PISTAKEE BAY FIREWORKS AT CAROL'S HOUSE

When:  Saturday 07/06/2024 7:00 PM, CDT
Where:  3215 N Bayview Lane, McHenry, IL
Event Details:  We have a GREAT vantage point for the Pistakee Bay Fireworks.  This show has been amazing the last few years.
Fireworks start after dusk, but the show starts earlier as the boat congestion happens.  I recommend driving to my location rather than boating, since there will be so many boats to contend with on your return home!
Please bring your own drinks and a dish to pass.  We are purging a few chairs on the porch, so you may want to put a chair in your car, just in case.  I will spray the bushes around the porch for mosquitos, and you may want to pack your favorite brand of bug spray as well.
Call me with any questions, 414 364 0485
Hope to see you.
Carol

2024 Rosemont Concerts in the Park

Here is the 2024 schedule of concerts at Rosemont’s Entertainment District. All concerts are free and parking is free with a validated parking ticket done at any of the restaurants in the park. Bring a chair and leave coolers at home. The 7 restaurants have booths that sell their small bites and beverages (alcohol, non alcohol and water). There are fireworks after each concert. If anyone is interested in coming to any of the bands below, let Alouise Gredell know at 847-975-5722 at least a few hours before. It gets crowded. She will most likely attend all of them weather permitting. There are more concerts scheduled but, Alouise probably not attend them.

6/13 - Traveling Salvation Show ( Neal Diamond cover band)

6/27 - Dyer Davis (blues rocker)

7/11 - Ticket to the Moon (ELO cover) very good

7/18 - Departure (Journey cover)

DOOR COUNTY
"EXTREME PENINSULA"
RECAP

Nine hardy campers ventured north last weekend to Fish Creek Campground in Door County. On Friday, we celebrated Jeanne and Paul Schmit’s 10-year anniversary at Alexander’s in Fish Creek, and continued the celebration with Smith & Currans around the campfire.  With rain in the forecast for Saturday, most of us decided to hike at Newport State Park, while 2 biked the somewhat soggy trails. We did a 2-mile walk along Lake Michigan and through the woods. The rain held off until we were seated with beverages and lunch at Mink River Basin in Ellison Bay. The sun came out and allowed us to enjoy a few (🤣) cocktails and al fresco dining that evening.
Sunday brought perfect weather to bike around Peninsula State Park with some challenging hills and gorgeous views of the bay and lake. Missy Karen then led the way to some cold brews at The Beer Joint behind Bayside Tavern with the obligatory stop for ice cream along the way. After our tough (?) bike ride, we were ready for some brandy old fashions - our campsite bar was well stocked -YUM!  Weather was perfect again to dine outdoors if you could ignore the skeeters. We all brought great food, snacks and drinks to share: bourbon, old fashions, cookies from Joanie, bacon wrapped dates, deviled eggs, bacon, eggs, pancakes, cheese balls and much more! We also had the canine brigade with us (Cafe, Dixie, Murphy and Augie) bringing lots of doggie love and smiles. We’re hoping to make this an annual event since there’s so much more to do in Door County and we have barely scratched the surface. Thanks to everyone who came and made this such a fun trip: Jeanne, Paul, Karen, Cindy, Bill W., Amber, Randy, Bill L., Barb, Cafe, Dixie, Murphy and Augie. And our special guests Gary and Mary.

IN MEMORIAM

Gary "DB" Sedlacko

Long time member, Gary "DB" Sedlacko, passed away Thursday June 6, 2024.  Gary joined Sitzmark in 1979 and quickly became a fixture in the Club.  He served countless administrations as the Constitution and By-Laws Chairman.  Gary was the go-to guy for any and all parliamentary procedures and questions concerning Roberts Rules of Order.  His penchant for practicality and order served him well in this capacity.  His skills for organizing our annual Memorial Day Rafting Trip to Thornton's Resort in Crivitz, WI, are legendary.  And yes, the Toga Party was a thing.  And no, there are no pictures (thank God)!  And if you have questions about the origin of Cheek Darts...you try coming up with a new bar game on a rainy Memorial Day weekend.

Anyone who knew Gary, knew he loved a few things - - - his family, music, sailing in the BVI's, vacations at Afterglow Resort in the north woods, and pork.  Gary's pig roasts were legendary.  From his first roast at his home on the "Chain", the one in a farmers field where the pig fell off its spit into the fire at 3 in the morning, to his brother Al's bar, to his and Tari's homes - - - you could always count on a ton of laughs and good pork!  When multiple sclerosis robbed him of his ability to fully participate and engage in life, his wife Tari made certain she hosted numerous parties so he could visit with his friends.

I take comfort knowing his good friends Cal, Jimmy, Mickey, John, Dawn, and Mikey welcomed him with open arms into their "Heaven Only Knows" bar.  In fact, I can guarantee, they're blazing up a doobie as I write this!!!

Please keep his wife Tari, sons Chris & Joe, daughter-in-law Jamie, granddaughter Elliot, and his brothers in your thoughts and prayers.

Rest well Gary.  Your family is in good hands.

Life is short.  Cherish your family and friends, and the memories you keep.

A visitation is scheduled for Monday, June 10, 2024 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  For more information log onto www.strangfuneral.org or contact (847)223-8122.
